Aromatic solvents

The aromatic solvents contain a benzene like ring and are produced from the distillation of petroleum or coal tar. Common aromatic solvents are toluene, xylene, phenol, benzene, styrene, diethylbenzene, ethylbenzene. Aromatic solvents are used as components of paint strippers, and in some engine cleaners. The presence of the benzene ring like structure in these solvents often makes them a health hazard and some of these solvents are known or suspected carcinogens.
