Information Organic Cleaning Agents
Organic solvents are of many different types and origin but
have in common a hydrocarbon nature. Organic solvents depend
largely on their ability to dissolve organic contaminants
on a molecular level and this ability is therefore strongly
dependant on the molecular structure of the solvent. They
are good at dissolving and cleaning of organic contaminants
and films, such as oil, greases or waxes and useful in both
spraying operations, wipe-cleaning or cold immersion processes
and often have the advantage of fast drying leaving no residue.
Their disadvantages may be low flame points - resulting in
fire and explosion risks, health hazards ranging from mild
irritation to severe toxicity or carcinogenic properties.
Some may be ozone depleting substances and/or be very toxic
to aquatic environment. This can result in their use being
highly regulated, requiring strict containment and emission
and disposal control.
